Overview
We meet and begin our walk in the lovely grounds of a former landlord’s residence, once the bastion of the elite, now enjoyed by all because nowadays it’s the hub of tourism in The Ring of Gullion.
Within 10 minutes of walking we arrive at a beautifully restored castle hotel, itself, once the residence of another landlord, we had plenty of them!
The first part of our walk is on quiet country roads and lanes before we reach one of the best preserved early Christian sites in the country.
Our guides will lead you through the gates of this spiritual site and tell some tales ( all true of course ?) about our ancestors who have their final resting places there.
The walk eventually begins to lead on to steeper open mountain slopes with stunning views out to the Mourne mountains in the west as we track up Gullion’s Southern slopes to the Bronze age multi cist burial cairn. Camlough lake far below is a sight to behold.
